All children of compulsory school age have the right to an efficient full-time education, regardless of age, aptitude, ability and any special needs they may have. Regular school attendance is essential if a child is to make the most of the educational opportunity available to them. It is our responsibility to monitor and promote the regular attendance of all pupils. Irregular attendance seriously disrupts continuity of learning, undermines educational progress, can lead to underachievement and low attainment and impedes the child’s ability to develop friendship groups within school.

Our target for 2017 – 2018 is to achieve an overall attendance figure of 96.0%. However we strive for a weekly class figure of 97% and this is recognised in an assembly at the end of every week. Good attendance is the key to any child being able to fulfill their potential and make good progress in school. We have very effective systems in school to monitor attendance and parents of children whose attendance falls below what is acceptable will be invited to meet with the members of the Inclusion Team to discuss how to overcome any issues.

Family Holidays in Term Time
Please do not ask for leave of absence for a family holiday in term time if you can possibly avoid it. Please submit any request for absence in writing or by email.
If you do have to ask for permission to take your child out of school for a holiday please consider the following:
- Try to avoid periods when your child is preparing for or taking examinations or important tests.
- Give at least two weeks notice of any planned absence.Every request for a holiday in term time will be considered individually. However, the most important consideration will be the effect that such an absence will have on your child’s education.
- No absence in September or May will be granted.
School does not have to agree to leave of absence for a holiday and will usually only authorise absence for holidays in term time when there are exceptional circumstances. Reducing absence from school is a key priority nationally and locally because missing school damages a pupil’s attainment levels, disrupts school routines and the learning of others and can leave a pupil vulnerable to anti-social behaviour and youth crime.
Parents who take their children on holiday without the leave of absence being authorised by the school may receive a written warning that legal action might be taken and the school could request that Gloucestershire County Council issue a Penalty Notice.
Above all, missing school seriously affects children’s longer term life opportunities.

Behaviour and Discipline
We believe good behaviour and good discipline benefits all members of the school community. In a well-behaved school pupils are able to make the most of the learning and social opportunities offered to them and teachers are able to devote their time most effectively to teaching.
We believe there are a number of factors associated with good behaviour:
Clear, simple guidelines which all members of the school can understand.
A consistent approach to discipline throughout the school.
Immediate sanctions and rewards related to rules.
High expectations of behaviour.
A positive ethos of mutual respect.
An inclusive ethos.
High self-esteem and positive self-image.
Positive relationships between all members of the school community.
Our aim is to promote good discipline and high standards of behaviour through a coherent, integrated approach which aims a promoting these factors in staff and pupils.
